MeoWant vs Litter-Robot: Which Self-Cleaning Box to Buy
By Automatic Pet Litter Boxes Editorial
MeoWant sells five self-cleaning boxes. The one shoppers set against the Litter-Robot 4 is its flagship, the SC09 Plus. On 27 October 2026 MeoWant’s store priced the SC09 at $649.99, against a crossed-out $789.99, and a Halloween code on the product page took $350 off that [s2]. Whisker sells the Litter-Robot 4 for $699 [s1].
So the price case for the SC09 depends on a code. With one like October’s, it costs less than half as much as the Litter-Robot 4. Without one, it saves you $49.
The SC09 has more room and takes heavier cats. The Litter-Robot 4 has the clearer terms: Whisker’s own store gives you 90 days to send it back, where MeoWant’s policies disagree with each other. For most homes the Litter-Robot 4 is the safer buy. For a tight budget or a cat over 25 pounds, the SC09 is a fair buy from MeoWant directly, with a code.

Where the MeoWant SC09 wins
Price, when a code runs. MeoWant’s banner also promised 30-day price protection on the day we checked [s2], which helps if a bigger code appears after you order.
Big cats are the second reason. MeoWant rates the SC09 for cats up to 30 pounds and quotes 106 liters of space inside [s2]. Whisker rates the Litter-Robot 4 to 25 pounds [s1]. A Maine Coon near the top of that range has more room in the MeoWant.

Two trial lengths on MeoWant’s own pages
The SC09 product page shows “90-Day Free Trial” beside the price [s2]. MeoWant’s refund policy allows returns “within 30 days of delivery”, and adds: “We cannot accept non-quality-related return requests after the 30-day period” [s3]. For a return that is not a defect, the buyer pays the return shipping and MeoWant refunds “the product price only” [s3].
Plan around the 30 days, because that is the number in the policy. Some cats take weeks to accept a self-cleaning box, so the window is tight. Save a screenshot of the 90-day claim with your order anyway.
Whisker’s 90-day trial is not universal either. It covers a Litter-Robot 4 bought from Whisker’s own sites. A box bought elsewhere, Amazon included, goes back under that store’s return policy [s1].
Where you buy changes the MeoWant warranty
MeoWant’s warranty page splits coverage by store. An SC09 ordered on meowant.com carries 2 years, for orders placed on or after 1 April 2026. The same box from Amazon or TikTok Shop carries 1 year [s4]. The SC09 product page itself still mentions “12 months of after-sales service” [s2], so save the warranty page with your order too.
The Litter-Robot 4 comes with 1 year of cover. Whisker includes a 3-year plan with most of its bundles and sells it alone for $129 [s1].
MeoWant’s complaint record
The Better Business Bureau lists 52 complaints against MeoWant in the last 3 years, 21 of them in the last 12 months [s5]. MeoWant is not BBB accredited. None of the complaints we read names a model, and all five, dated 6 July to 20 August 2026, are marked “Unanswered” [s5].
They are mostly about returns and warranty claims. One buyer reported “urine leaking from the seam of the drum” and said MeoWant offered only a replacement drum and later an $80 partial refund [s5]. Another wrote: “Bought MeoWant litter box, it stopped working < 1 year later” [s5].
A BBB page records complaints rather than failure rates, and a company that sells many boxes collects more of them.
Owners of older MeoWant models report leaks on Reddit too. One owner of the 75-liter model wrote “Trust everyone saying they leak” and now uses puppy pads under the box, though the same owner says the app “works great” [s7]. Another owner in that thread moved to MeoWant after a Litter-Robot 3 kept “saying the box was full” and that there was “always a cat in it”. They bought a second MeoWant because the boxes were “working so well”, then found “both the litter boxes were leaking”, and replaced them with a Litter-Robot 4 [s7]. For the SC09, MeoWant says its new liner reduces “leakage by up to 50%” [s2].
A pinch-point report on a large MeoWant
In July 2026 an owner of a Litter-Robot 4 and a Litter-Robot 5 posted a video to r/litterrobot of a large MeoWant model, which they called the “Meowant XXL” [s6]. They wrote that near the end of the cleaning cycle “the sensors seemed to miss the obstruction more than 75% of the time”, and that the drum kept pushing before it beeped. They tested with a finger and with a plastic tool.
Commenters split. One wrote that you can “hear it struggling as it pinches the plastic piece. Then after a few seconds it reverses.” Another replied: “It stopped, It reversed… What the f*** did you expect?” A third asked which model it was: “The SC10?” [s6]. r/litterrobot is a Litter-Robot owners’ forum, and the post names no model number. MeoWant’s SC09 page lists an anti-pinch design and sensors for “weight detection, motion interruption, and abnormal alarms” [s2].
Where the Litter-Robot 4 pulls ahead
The Litter-Robot 4 has the longer trial in writing, if you buy it from Whisker [s1]. Its own weak points are the 25-pound limit and a higher price, and our Litter-Robot 4 review covers the rest. Our guide to Litter-Robot sales tracks when Whisker’s discounts land. For another cheaper box, our Litter-Robot 4 vs Neakasa M1 Plus comparison covers an open-top model.
Which to buy
Buy the Litter-Robot 4 from Whisker if you want 90 days to change your mind.
The MeoWant SC09 Plus makes sense with a code, or for a cat over 25 pounds. Order it from meowant.com rather than Amazon to get the 2-year warranty, and test it hard inside the first 30 days.
